Jamie Johnson is the Director of the Office of National Laboratories within the Science and Technology Directorate in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Mr. Johnson assumed his position in April 2006. His responsibilities include managing the S&T laboratories annual operating budget of $150 million along and approximately 500 employees. Mr. Johnson is also responsible for establishing strategic R&D partnerships between DHS and the Department of Energy national laboratories.

Mr. Johnson began his career with Westinghouse at the Savannah River Plant in 1985 as a nuclear engineer and held a variety of assignments in nuclear fuel design, nuclear materials analysis, and nuclear reactor operations. In 1991, Mr. Johnson became a Federal employee with the Department of Energy as a project engineer in the New Production Reactor program. In 1993, Mr. Johnson joined the Environmental Management program and held positions of increasing program management responsibility for the clean-up of nuclear weapons sites. In 1997, Mr. Johnson joined the National Nuclear Security Administration as the technical manager for the Mixed Oxide Fuel Fabrication Facility program with responsibility to reduce surplus plutonium in the U.S. Jamie led the completion of the design and initiation of the construction for the $3 billion facility which is currently in construction at the Savannah River Site.

In 2004, Mr. Johnson joined the Department of Homeland Security to lead the construction ($150 million budget) of the first R&D laboratory facility (National Biodefense Analysis and Countermeasures Center-NBACC). Mr. Johnson also established the first laboratory Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) within DHS to operate the NBACC. In addition, Jamie led the 3 year multi-agency site planning process for a new replacement laboratory for the existing Plum Island Animal Disease laboratory. The planning process included conducting an Environmental impact Statement with the health and safety risk assessment, security assessments, and cost evaluations.

Over a period of 25 years, Jamie has worked in two government agencies (Department of Homeland Security and Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration) and has managed a variety of technical programs, laboratory operations programs, and large, complex construction projects covering chemical, biological, and nuclear disciplines. He is also a Level III certified acquisition professional.

Mr. Johnson earned a B.S degree in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Arizona and M.S. degree in Nuclear Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He also has a Master of Business Administration from the University of North Carolina.
