National Association Of Seed and Venture Funds

Richard A. Miller is a business development and marketing executive focused on technology and innovation-based economic development.  He currently provides consulting services to the National Association of Seed and Venture Funds (www.nasvf.org) along with Innovation America (www.innovationamerica.us), the new national innovation-based economic development organization.  Most recently he was Vice President of Government and Community Relations and Vice President of Marketing and Business Development, at the University City Science Center (www.sciencecenter.org) in Philadelphia, PA. The University City Science Center is the oldest and largest urban incubation facility in the U.S.  At the Science Center, Mr. Miller was responsible for successfully launching the Global Soft Landing Program that recruits early-stage technology companies from throughout the world to establish their US base of operations at the Science Center Research Park.

Previously, Mr. Miller was one of the founders of Innovation Philadelphia (www.innovationphiladelphia.com), a Philadelphia-based technology-based economic development organization.  In his role of Vice President, Marketing and Communications, he created the successful organization’s marketing strategy that received multiple international marketing and publishing awards.   In addition, Mr. Miller created and published multiple award-winning research reports; economic impact studies; launched new economic development entrepreneurial programs; and led marketing initiatives and brand awareness engagements that successfully resulted in rapid growth of the organization.

Mr. Miller is also the Principal of RAMAir, LLC, a consulting firm that specializes in business development engagements and marketing programs.  He spent several years as Vice President for Business Development, Validation Plus Inc. (www.validationplusinc.com), a virtual validation and engineering consulting company that provides services to the life science and tissue bank industries.  

Prior to his engagement at Innovation Philadelphia, Mr. Miller was the Vice President of Marketing and Communications with Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania (www.sep.benfranklin.org). During his tenure at Ben Franklin, he was responsible for publishing the first Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Report for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania that identified the life sciences industry as one of the fastest growing clusters in the state. He was also responsible for the re-branding and re-marketing of the twenty-year old statewide technology-based economic development organization.

Prior to entering into the technology field, Mr. Miller had a successful career in commercial aviation with Trans World Airlines and US Airways.  At both airlines, he held sales and marketing positions in Connecticut, Michigan, Colorado, Virginia and Pennsylvania. He also was responsible for the international expansion of US Airways in Philadelphia and for multiple joint ventures with international carriers.

Richard is an accomplished licensed pilot, motorcyclist and enjoys bicycling for non-profit charity events.  Mr. Miller resides in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey.
