Bryan Allinson leads the Office of Technology Commercialization at the University of Texas System, working with all fifteen institutions of the University of Texas. As Executive Director, Bryan serves as the technology commercialization principal at the UT System where he directs access to resources, including capital and shared services, and other important resources necessary for commercialization of technology. He also helps identify critical pathways for thematic partnering through collaborative activities. Bryan organizes UT System reports to state and national commercialization and economic development agencies, including the Texas Emerging Technology Fund (TETF) and Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM).

Prior to his appointment, he served as Director of Technology Transfer at Ohio University, helping to monetize royalty revenue of SOMAVERT®, pharmaceutical product marketed by Pfizer, a deal valued at $52 million. He previously served as Director of Geisinger Ventures, a for-profit division of the Geisinger Health System, where he founded the technology commercialization office. Bryan served as a H. J. Heinz Technology Commercialization Fellow at Carnegie Mellon University. Prior to his position with Geisinger Ventures, he was part of critical growth of several startup companies.

Bryan received dual bachelor of science degrees in chemical engineering and chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh and a master of business administration from Carnegie Mellon University.


Edgar Auslander

Edgar Auslander is vice president of product management at Qualcomm. He is responsible for Qualcomm's chipset product roadmap management, planning and strategic direction.
Auslander has more than 20 years of experience in venture capital and general management at startups and Fortune 100 companies.

Prior to joining Qualcomm, he served as senior vice president of strategic planning at ST-Ericsson. Prior, he was a director at Intel, responsible for strategic alliances and engineering of mobile internet platforms as well as vice president at VantagePoint Venture Partners.
He was one of the founders of Texas Instruments' Wireless Business Unit and served as its general manager of worldwide strategy and corporate development. He also served as senior vice president of marketing at IXI Mobile Inc., a Silicon Valley start-up.

A senior member of IEEE, Auslander is co-author of The Applications of Programmable DSPs in Mobile Communications, published by Wiley. He has taught at the EDHEC Business School in France, published numerous articles and spoken at industry conferences worldwide.
Auslander holds a master’s in Business Administration from Columbia University and a master’s in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University.


Jerrod Bailey

Jerrod Bailey is Vice President and Practice Area Manager of Business Development at Tallwave. With 14 years of experience in telecommunications and systems integration industries in companies like Verizon, Reliance Globalcom, and Virtela Communications. Jerrod has served in Business Development, Marketing and Product roles for both large companies and startups, having delivered hundreds of millions of dollars of revenue and growth. For the last 2 years, Jerrod has run the Practice Area of Business Development at Arizona’s largest Venture Accelerator, Tallwave. In this time, Jerrod has assisted dozens of early stage ventures to achieve early market traction, strategic partnerships, first revenues and clients. Jerrod also maintains responsibility over Tallwave’s extensive network of operators, corporate partnerships, deal flow channels, funding partners, and community partners.


Sean Barr

Sean Barr is currently the Vice President of Economic Development at the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation (EDC) where he is principally responsible for developing and executing an aggressive investment attraction program in support of San Diego’s key economic drivers and job growth strategy. Before joining the EDC, Sean was a Consul & Trade Commissioner at the Consulate of Canada in San Diego where he worked on the LEAP! intiative.

Sean has spent the majority of his career supporting the growth of information technology, biotech, aerospace and clean-tech industries throughout North America. Sean possesses 14+ years of advanced technology focused on economic development experience. 

Sean possesses a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Manitoba.


Jennifer L. Barry

Jennifer Barry is a partner in the Litigation Department of Latham & Watkins’ San Diego office. She joined the firm in September 2003 after earning her law degree from Duke University School of Law, where she was Chair of the Moot Court Board.

Rodney Bowen-Wright

The Microsoft Emerging Business Group is a corporate function chartered to source, recruit and incubate next generation businesses and business models across market domains globally. This includes diverse areas like Digital Media, Mobility and Business Applications.

Rodney is currently one of seven panelists in the Microsoft BizSpark One program which selects new and innovative companies and chartered to find Microsoft's next big technology bets. The team currently manages a diverse portfolio of companies across domains including Enterprise, Gaming, Online and Cloud based businesses.

He is also has responsible for Microsoft Dynamics which is a platform for building line of business applications across vertical industries. Rodney holds a Masters degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering and prior to Microsoft held various leadership roles and architected several successful commercial products for Time Warner and Cadence Design Systems (his previous employers).

Jeff Carpenter

Jeff’ Carpenter runs the Bird Dog Innovation Strategies group for Development Capital Networks, where he manages the technology scouting, licensing, and due diligence services provided by DCN.

His 17+ years of technology commercialization experience includes director of product development for a clean tech start-up in the mid 90’s; nearly 10 years in the University of Minnesota technology transfer office; senior tech scout for a medical device company; and commercialization planning , due diligence, and strategic partnering support for entrepreneurs, investors, and technology acquirers. Jeff’s expertise includes market and competitive landscape analysis, strategic patenting, partner identification and vetting, patent valuation, and license negotiation.

Jeff holds a PhD in Cell and Developmental Biology from the University of Minnesota; and Bachelors and Masters degrees in Forestry, from the University of Montana. After receiving his doctorate, Jeff worked for 15 months as a Congressional Science Fellow in the U.S. Senate.


Ray Chan

Ray has also served as the Vice President of International at NetManage, a provider of e-business and application integration solutions. In 1985, he co-founded NetSoft, a leader in communications solutions between PCs, mainframes, and AS/400 systems. NetSoft was acquired by NetManage Inc (NETM).


Melanie Dolan

Melanie is a Partner in the KPMG’s Audit Quality and Professional Practice Group. In this role, Melanie provides technical accounting, assurance and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reporting assistance, and provides guidance in interpreting and implementing new SEC rules and announcements as they occur. Melanie is also the Chair of the Center for Audit Quality (CAQ) SEC Regulations Committee and a member of its Audit Practices Task Force. She previously served as KPMG’s representative on the CAQ International Practices Task Force. Prior to joining KPMG, Melanie was an Associate Chief Accountant in the Division of Corporation Finance at the SEC.

Melanie has previously presented at various conferences on the JOBS Act and has written KPMG’s technical publications on this subject matter, among others. She serves as one of the technical resources in KPMG’s National Office providing assistance in interpreting the rules and guidance to clients filing under the JOBS Act.

Paul Huleatt

Jacob Johnson

Jacob Johnson is the Founder of innovoSource. His primary motivation in founding innovoSource was to act as a partner to organizations in early-stage innovation to develop topics and services that may be cost prohibitive, difficult, or too disruptive to explore internally.

Prior to innovoSource, Jacob was a consultant to the DARPA Microsystems Technology Office, and a founding member of three technology transfer, business development, and corporate relations units at the University of Minnesota. Jacob is a member of and a regular speaker at the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM) and Network of Academic and Corporate Relations Officers (NACRO), and the Midwest Research University Network (MRUN). He is also the author and investigator of Mind the Gap and Making the Connection. Both reports combine program and impact details of over 100 different funds

Robert Kibble

Prior to Mission Ventures, Robert served for thirteen years as a founding General Partner of Paragon Venture Partners, a successful venture capital firm operating in Silicon Valley, focused on investing in information technology companies. His early career included investment banking on Wall Street as well as Vice President of Citicorp’s Merchant Banking Group in Malaysia and Brazil before becoming a Vice President of Citicorp Venture Capital.

Robert has a Bachelor's degree, with honors, in Natural Sciences from Oxford University, and an MBA from the Darden School, University of Virginia. He is a former Director of the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) and he currently sits on the Board of Eveo, Nexiant, and SodaHead. Robert represented Mission's leadership role in prior portfolio investments in Sandpiper Networks (subsequently becoming Digital Island) and Shopzilla.


Lee Krevat

Lee Krevat is director of the smart grid initiative for Sempra Energy’s San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E).

Krevat leads enterprise-wide smart grid strategy, policy, and project alignment for SDG&E. In March 2012, he was named one of the top 100 movers and shakers who are influencing the smart grid market by GreenTech Media for the second time and recognized as a Privacy Ambassador by The Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario. In 2011, Lee was recognized as part of the Top 11 Movers and Shakers of the electric industry by Intelligent Utility Magazine and named one of the Top 15 Smart Grid leaders in the electric industry by FierceSmartGrid.

Krevat currently serves on the Board of Directors of the GridWise Alliance, a smart grid advocacy coalition with the mission to transform the electric grid to achieve a sustainable energy future through the advocacy of well-reasoned smart grid policies at the federal, state, and local levels. Lee also serves on the boards of GridX and the Electric Drive Transportation Association (EDTA).

SDG&E has built a strong foundation in Smart Grid technologies, including self-healing grid technology, automated sub-station condition-based maintenance, advanced outage and distribution management systems, and microgrid projects funded by DOE and CEC. SDG&E filed a 10 year Smart Grid Deployment Plan on June 6, 2011 which described a vision for the future as well as a roadmap composed of 82 projects. SDG&E was ranked number one in the nation three years running in the Smartest Utility rankings published by IDC Energy Insights and Intelligent Utility magazine, named one of the Top Ten Utility Smart Grid Deployments in North America by GreenTech Media and received the 2012 POWER Smart Grid Award from POWER magazine for launching one of the most ambitious and comprehensive smart grid deployment programs in the nation.

Krevat’s prior positions at SDG&E include director of program delivery, where he oversaw IT for advanced technology projects and the development of new systems to improve operating efficiency and customer experience. Krevat was also director of IT strategy and business partnership where he worked to align strategic direction between IT and the utility business units, as well as director of infrastructure engineering & operations.

Before joining Sempra, Krevat led the Software Process Engineering, Technology Transfer and Software Process Improvement Teams at Tandem Computers.

Krevat graduated with university honors and holds a Bachelor of Science in applied mathematics/computer science from Carnegie Mellon University.

Howard Lindzon

Howard Lindzonis co-founder and CEO of StockTwits® – a social network for traders and investors to share real-time ideas and information. StockTwits was recently named “one of the top 10 most innovative companies in web” by FastCompany and one of the “50 best websites” by Time magazine.

Mr. Lindzon has more than twenty years experience in the financial community acting in both an entrepreneurial and investing capacity. With a unique vision for starting and successfully managing innovative companies, he is the Managing Partner of Social Leverage, a holding company that invests in early stage web businesses. Howard continues to manage a hedge fund he started in 1998.

He created Wallstrip, and more than 400 original web video shows, which was purchased by CBS Corp. in 2007. He is an active angel with many success angel investments including: Rent.com, (purchased by Ebay in 2005 for $415 million), Golfnow.com (purchased by Comcast in June 2008), and Lifelock (lead investors include Bessemer Venture Partners and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers). Mr. Lindzon's new media and internet business investments also include: Limos.com, Blogtalkradio.com, Buddy Media, Ticketfly, Assistly, Bit.ly and Tweetdeck (purchased by Twitter in June 2011).

Mr. Lindzon received an MBA at Arizona State University and an MIM from The American Graduate School of International Management.


Paul K Meyer

Paul K. Meyer is sector vice president and general manager of Advanced Programs and Technology at Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems, a premier provider of manned and unmanned aircraft, space systems and advanced technologies critical to our nation’s security.

In this role, Meyer oversees the creation, demonstration and capture of advanced concepts air, land, space, directed energy and several special programs along with technology development. Included in this portfolio are the “Family of Systems” weapon systems; X-47B Unmanned Combat Air System demonstration program; U.S. Navy Unmanned Carrier Launched Airborne Surveillance and Strike (UCASS) capture; and Wide Band Relay, a commercially hosted SATCOM payload.

Previously, Meyer led the company’s bid for the U.S. Air Force KC-X tanker replacement program. He also served as sector vice president for Advanced Capabilities Development for the former Integrated Systems sector, where he was responsible for creating and guiding next-generation growth opportunities and technology development in the aircraft business. This included the creation of the Cyber Warfare Integration Network laboratory, which resulted in several major competitive wins, including advanced surveillance aircraft and networks, carrier-based unmanned aircraft, unmanned submersibles, and airborne operations and battle management centers.
Before joining Northrop Grumman in 2000, Meyer was vice president, Business Development, at Lockheed Martin Skunk Works, where he was also responsible for advanced program development. His responsibilities encompassed management of new and sustaining program development, classified program and technology development, international special mission aircraft sales, reusable space launch vehicle market development via the NASA X-33, and strategic planning for the entire company.

Meyer has been actively involved in the aerospace industry since 1988 with varied duties as an avionics design engineer, manager on the Advanced Tactical Fighter DEM/VAL (YF-22) program and Advanced Programs development on F-117A. While a member of the stealth fighter team, he served in several program management positions in Low Observable Mission Planning, F-117 Advanced Derivatives, A/F-117X Naval Derivatives, and, ultimately, TACAIR Special Projects, focusing on advanced fighter/bomber design concepts to include F-35.
He earned a Bachelor of Science as well as his commission in the U.S. Air Force from the University of Missouri-Columbia. As an officer in the U.S. Air Force, Meyer graduated from the United States Air Force Electronic Warfare Officer School, Fighter Weapons Instructor Course and Nuclear Weapons Instructor course. He is also a graduate of the University of Southern California’s Executive Management Development Program as well as Senior Executive Development at Stanford University. Meyer also serves as the president of Allied Holdings Inc., in which he oversees the integration and leverage of Scaled Composites, LLC, into this Northrop Grumman portfolio.

Meyer is a member of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and serves on the University of Missouri Deans Board of Engineering.

Terry W Moore

Mr. Moore has over 20 years of experience investing, founding, leading, and advising tech, clean-tech, and life science companies. He has had C-level experience, and has served on the Board of Directors and Advisors of numerous companies in various stages of development and operation. Mr. Moore founded and is Chairman of The VC Roundtable (www.thevcroundtable.com) of Southern California, a private, invitation-only, monthly VC networking organization that was founded in early 2002.

Mr. Moore has an excellent track record and some of his investments include a global media (TV, Radio and Music) over cellular networks provider named MobiTV (approaching $100M in revenues in 2010 and an IPO candidate); a quantum cascade laser company called Daylight Solutions (profitable after the Series "B" round); a broadband wireless sub-systems integrator E-Band Communications (with over $15M in sales backlog); a manufacturing automation software company called Incuity (sold to Rockwell for a 108% IRR, a 3.8X return in 20 months), and several additional software companies.

Mr. Moore founded, developed, and is the former Executive Director of the Morrison & Foerster Venture Network. Prior to joining Morrison & Foerster, Mr. Moore was a Managing Partner at HamiltonTech Capital Partners, a tech and med-tech follow on VC fund to the original 1999/2000 Hamilton Fund located in Southern California. Michael R. Niggli is president and chief operating officer of San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), Sempra Energy’s regulated California utility. Sempra Energy is a San Diego-based Fortune 500 energy services holding company whose subsidiaries provide electricity, natural gas and value-added products and services.

SDG&E is a regulated public utility that provides service to 3.4 million consumers through 1.4 million electric meters and more than 850,000 natural gas meters in San Diego and southern Orange counties.

In 2006, Niggli was named chief operating officer of SDG&E and Southern California Gas Co., another of Sempra Energy’s regulated California utilities. Previously, from 2000 to 2006, Niggli was president of Sempra Generation where he was responsible for the operation and maintenance of merchant power plants and energy infrastructure throughout North America.
Prior to joining Sempra Energy in 2000, Niggli was chairman and chief executive officer of Nevada Power Company and Sierra Pacific Resources. He contributed to a successful merger of the two companies that doubled their size and strength. He also guided the company through the deregulation process in Nevada and achieved the highest customer satisfaction rating of any electric utility in the western United States (as reported by J.D. Power and Associates).
From 1988 to 1998 Niggli served as a senior executive with Entergy Corporation where he had significant corporate responsibilities for strategic planning, customer service, fuels acquisition, marketing and sales. He began his career in 1971 at SDG&E, where his management responsibilities included electric and gas operations, fuels acquisition, project management and customer service.

Niggli holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from California State University, Long Beach and San Diego State University.

He founded the graduate program in power engineering at San Diego State University and lectured there for five years. He has also participated in the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.

Niggli has previously served on numerous boards, including the Edison Electric Institute, Electric Power Research Institute, National Coal Council, Electric Power Supply Association, and United Way of Southern Nevada. He currently is chairman of the board of the Great Basin National Park Foundation and is co-chair of the Dean’s Advisory Council for Engineering, California State University, Long Beach. James M. (“Jim”) Zortman is sector vice president, Life Cycle Logistics and Support, for Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems, a premier provider of manned and unmanned aircraft, space systems and advanced technologies critical to our nation’s security.

Supporting sector strategy of “design anywhere, build anywhere, support anywhere,” Zortman provides sector-level leadership of the full spectrum of logistics and product support functions. He is responsible for ensuring that the same excellence in integration now represented in design and production at Aerospace Systems is also fully exploited in anticipation and fulfillment of product support requirements.

His most recent previous assignment was as sector vice president, Global Sustainment, at the former Integrated Systems sector. In addition, effective July 18, 2009, Zortman assumed the responsibilities of site manager of the Rancho Bernardo and Moss Point sites.

Zortman joined Northrop Grumman in January 2008 following a career in the U.S. Navy, where he attained the rank of vice admiral. He served as commander Naval Air Forces and chief executive officer, Naval Aviation Enterprise. In this role, he led a combined team of more than 180,000 military, government, civilian and contractor personnel responsible for operations, readiness and full life cycle management of 3,800 aircraft and 12 aircraft carriers.

His prior assignments include commander, Naval Air Forces, Pacific Fleet; commander, Naval Air Force Atlantic Fleet; commander, Task Force Fifty; commander, John C. Stennis Battle Group; director, Operations and Politico-Military Affairs; and executive officer to the vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.He has earned the Distinguished Service Medal, Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit (4), the Bronze Star and the Air Medal.

Zortman earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., and completed a fellowship with the Chief of Naval Operations in Strategic Studies Group at the Naval War College. In addition, he has completed courses in executive business and strategic planning at the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif., and the University of North Carolina Business School at Chapel Hill.
